Gamecocks Week Ahead

The Gamecocks week ahead in sports starts big and ends big.  And even though the NFL combine is going on right now for some Gamecocks players this is more in reference to actual games going on this week.

Monday

  • At 9 PM the Gamecocks women’s basketball team currently ranked #2 in the nation will take on the Tennessee Volunteers who are not only ranked sixth in the nation but also undefeated for the season in SEC play. This matchup could be a preview of the SEC championship.   The game will be at 9 PM and shown on ESPN2

Tuesday

  • The Gamecocks men’s basketball team had to Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide. The men are hoping to stay above 500 with a victory against another quality SEC opponent as Alabama is 16-11.  The game is at 7 PM on the SEC network
  • The Gamecock baseball team will host 3-2 Davidson College at 4pm. South Carolina 6-1 on the season and has won six straight after losing its opener.

Wednesday

  • At 6pm, the 11-4 Gamecocks softball team hosts 1-2 Western Carolina who have had most of their games cancelled due to weather.  The team is expected to break into the top 25 when the new poll comes out Tuesday.

Thursday

  • At 7pm, the Lady Gamecocks don’t get a break and take on #11 Mississippi St at home in their next to last regular season game and their final regular season home game.  MSU is 25-4 and their offense has kicked into gear scoring more than 90 points 5 times in the last two months.  This game will clearly have SEC tournament implications.

Friday

  • At 5:30pm, the Softball team takes on 9-4 Charleston Southern here in Columbia
  • At 6:30pm, the baseball team plays at Clemson in the big yearly series against the in-state rival.  Clemson is 4-2 and struggled in their opening series against West Virginia.

Saturday

  • At 2:30pm, the baseball team takes on Clemson again in game two, this time at Fluor Field in Greenville.  This game is considered a neutral site for the two teams to square off.
  • At 3pm, the softball team takes on 11-3 Marshall here in Columbia.
  • At 6pm, the men’s basketball team plays here in Columbia in an SEC matchup against 12-15 Mississippi St.  There will only be a few games left in the season at this point, and the Gamecocks will be looking to finish up the season on a high note.

Sunday

  • At noon, the Gamecocks baseball team finishes off their three game series against Clemson here at Carolina stadium.
  • At 12:30pm, the softball team takes on South Alabama in the next to last game of the Carolina Classic
  • At 3pm, the softball team finishes up the Carolina Classic against Tennessee State
  • At 5pm, the Lady Gamecocks basketball team continue a huge three game stretch to end the season against #13 Kentucky in Lexington, KY.  This is an incredibly tough SEC matchup and will definitely impact the SEC tournament which starts the following week
