Gamecocks Perfect Kickoff Time For Tennessee Announced

Monday the Gamecocks had the perfect kickoff time for Tennessee announced as the game will start at 7:30pm on November 1 at Williams-Brice Stadium and be broadcast on the SEC Network.  I don’t know exactly what it is, but if it were my call, I’d have every single game kickoff at 7pm or 7:30pm when it’s a home game.  I can’t put my finger on just one reason I feel this way, but I do know when it started.  I came to South Carolina in 1987 from Atlanta to attend USC.

It was a perfect year to start here, with Todd Ellis, Harold Green, Brad Edwards, Collin Mackie, and of course Sterling Sharpe were the stars of this exciting team that honestly I’d known little about before I moved to Columbia.  It was an great team to watch for sure, and as a student I loved being able to go to the games.  I still remember the Clemson game the most though, as both teams were ranked, and the atmosphere was like nothing I’d ever seen before.  Being there under the lights with a packed stadium, two huge rivals, a national television audience, and of course when 2001 started the place just exploded.  The energy at the stadium in that moment is like nothing else.  A “few” years later, I still feel the same way, and especially for the late season games, when the sun has already gone down, and there’s that southern fall chill in the air it just all creates an environment that now we combine with Sandstorm and 85,000 fans in garnet with those towels waving and the stadium is swaying, and you have a real home field advantage.  If you’ve been there, you can almost feel it now can’t you?

Of course the television networks have a ton of control over when each game is.  But I know if they asked me, I’d have every home game at night.

What about you?  Do you like night home games?  Or would you rather have them in the day at noon or 3:30pm?  Let us know!
