After an 0-11 season in 1999, Lou Holtz led the Gamecocks to a 8-4 mark and a top 25 ranking in 2000 and had his team at 7-2 with Florida riding into town, which just so happened to be coach by the one and only Steve Spurrier. This game might have been a lot of things, but competitive wasn’t one of them, at least after the first quarter: the Gators turned a 10-all first quarter tie into an absolute rout in a total dismantling of the Gamecocks. Spurrier resigned to become the head coach of the Washington Redskins after leading the Gators to an Orange Bowl win, and, well, you know the rest.
