South Carolina vs. Georgia: Brandon Wilds and Skai Moore are our players of the game

In a night where 150% was needed from whoever stepped onto the field, the South Carolina Gamecocks got it and more from Brandon Wilds and Skai Moore. I chose two guys because it simply wouldn’t be fair to choose one after the night both of them had–from Wilds chewing up yardage and clock late to Moore flying all over the place on defense. Here’s a quick break down of why I chose each player.

Let’s start with

Brandon Wilds

. The Georgia defense was ready for Mike Davis, seemingly making him run side to side and dance instead of hitting holes downhill with momentum. To have that successful 1-2 punch in the backfield, that second punch has to be able to pick up the first back, and Wilds did just that. This isn’t Brandon’s first rodeo, picking up injuries to Lattimore in recent years and doing much more than asked of him. He did it again last night. Every carry for Wilds the whole night was a chippy three to four yards and always fighting forward. Late in the game, Davis was out for a few crucial plays after tweaking an ankle. Wilds accepted the challenge, and with help from the outstanding o-Line, took the ball right down the field after Georgia scored to make it a three-point ball game. Wilds would run it in from 24 yards out on that drive which proved to be the essential game winner, not to mention the big 15 yard gain prior to the scoring play, and finished with 93 yards on 14 carries.

Skai Moore

was everywhere on the defensive side. If he wasn’t in on the tackle, he was around the pile, and a big piece in either stopping Todd Gurley or making him change direction to give other defenders time to get to him. Skai finished with 10 tackles, six of them being solo. Although I’m picking Skai for the defensive player of the game, I think we all hope the whole defense got a game ball, if possible.

Regardless of who is picked for individual honors, we all saw a different TEAM last night. A defense we haven’t seen all year. Sure, we gave up 35 points, but with the exception of 2012, what Carolina vs. Georgia contest hasn’t seen this type of game?
