South Carolina vs. Texas A&M final score: Gamecocks fall 52-28
By Sydney Hunte
Well, the road to an SEC title and an national championship didn’t start as planned for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Take what you want from this game: poor tackling, poor pass rush, poor play in the secondary–we suppose we can go on, but we won’t. Instead, we’ll point to the stats: the Gamecocks were outgained 680-433, were outrushed 169-67 and were just 2-9 for third down (to A&M’s 12-17).

As for
Kenny Hill? His first collegiate start went pretty good. That is, if you consider 44 of 60, 511 yards (a program record) and three touchdowns merely “pretty good”. The star of the receiving corps:
Malcome Kennedy. He hauled in 14 catches for 137 yards, while Josh Reynolds (6 for 76),
Edward Pope(4 for 75) and
Ricky Seals-Jones(5 for 67) the recipients of Hill’s touchdown passes.
Trey Williamsnotched 13 carries for 78 yards and a score, while
Tra Carson(7 for 30) found the end zone three times.
Looking at Dylan Thompson‘s stats, he wasn’t bad at all (20-40, 366 yards, 4 TD), but his defense certainly let him down this evening. He had plenty of time to throw the ball, and did hit a few bombs (a 69-yarder to Nick Jones, who finished with five catches for 113 yards and two TDs), but other times he rushed passes and overthrew receivers on routes.
So, with the loss, the Gamecocks’ 18-game winning streak at Williams-Brice Stadium comes to an end. They’ll have a chance to start a new one when East Carolina comes to town next week, but this one will sting for a bit.
