Who wears #6: Connor Mitch (QB) and Chris Moody (SS)
The backup redshirt freshman quarterback and the backup redshirt sophomore safety get the profile treatment today. It looks like Mitch will get the spot behind Dylan Thompson in 2014, beating out Perry Orth and Brendan Nosovitch. Mitch certainly made his mark on the record books in high school: he was one of the most prolific quarterbacks in North Carolina state history, departing with the second highest marks for passing yards and touchdowns. Next year’s battle under center will be interesting with Thompson gone and highly-touted Georgia QB Lorenzo Nunez coming on board.
Moody saw the field for the first time in 2013 as a redshirt freshman and played in all but one game. He’s slated on the third string behind seniors Brison Williams and Kadetrix Marcus.
What six days away means
We’re entering the final weekend of the year without college football. It also means that next week, we’ll be breaking down Gamecocks/Aggies and, hopefully, talking about a 1-0 South Carolina team.
Gamecocks football in 1906
Record: N/A
Imagine having a program being banned because of the chants by their students? Sounds very farfetched in 2014, but that’s what happened in 1906. Things apparently got so out of hand that the Board of Trustees scrapped the sport that year. Numerous complaints led to the program being reinstated in 1907 and an abbreviated, three-game season being played.
