South Carolina Gamecocks Football Countdown: 16 Days
By Sydney Hunte
Our countdown to the 2014 college football season continues as just 16 days separate us from kickoff between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas A&M Aggies at Williams-Brice Stadium on August 28.
Who wears #16: Zack Cimaglia, RS soph. K/P
Zack had a fairly successful freshman campaign at North Carolina A&T in 2012, garnering MEAC Rookie of the Week at one point. He transferred to community college in 2013 before heading to Columbia to join the Gamecocks. Cimaglia likely won’t see too much time in 2014 with Elliot Fry holding down kicking duties and Tyler Hull installed as the punter, but does add some depth to the positions he hopes to get a shot at it again next year.
What 16 days means
We’re two days from launch of the SEC Network. The network will be loading up on original programming while leading up to the big game on August 28, so many eyes across America will be turned to the channel on Thursday.
Gamecocks football in 1916
Record: 2-7
Coach: Rice Warren
Not much went right for the Gamecocks’ offense in 1916: they were shut out four times (including by Clemson, 27-0) and if not for being awarded a safety against The Citadel, it would have been five games in which they were held off the scoreboard.
