More from South Carolina Football

Let this sink in: We are 30 days from kickoff between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Texas A&M Aggies. Hard to believe, but it seems like yesterday the countdown was 100 days.

I was trying to figure out a special way to commemorate the occasion, but finally decided just to stay the course and do today the same way we’ve done previous countdowns. So, without further ado…

Our countdown to the 2014 college football season continues as just 30 days separate us from kickoff between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas A&M Aggies at Williams-Brice Stadium on August 28.

Who wears #30: Darius Paulk, FB
Paulk spent the last two years up at North Greenville University before making the decision to transfer to USC, so that means he won’t play this year. He walked on to the squad in the spring and will reside on the team as a non-scholarship player for now.

What 30 days means
Well…we mentioned this above.

Gamecocks football in 1930
Record: 6-4 (4-3 Southern)
Coach: Billy Laval
Laval’s third season at the helm of Gamecocks football saw the team only score 10.8 points per game but still manage to win six games. Worst loss of the year: a 45-0 drubbing at Georgia Tech. A game they should have won but didn’t: Furman, a non-major program at the time. Clemson would beat the Gamecocks, 20-7, their fourth straight win in the series before South Carolina rattled off three in a row from 1931-1933. The year 1930 was also the last time the Gamecocks beat LSU, a 7-6 win.
