South Carolina Gamecocks Football Countdown: 42 Days

facebooktwitterreddit

Our countdown to the 2014 college football season continues as just 42 days separate us from kickoff between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas A&M Aggies at Williams-Brice Stadium on August 28.

Who wears #42: Jordan Diggs, Spur
The half-brother of Gerald Dixon (#44) and Gerald Dixon (#92), he was one of the more highly touted players out of the class of 2012. We saw the rising redshirt sophomore get some time at the spur position behind Sharrod Golightly (25 tackles, 4.0 TFL) last year in a redshirt season. He probably won’t crack the starting lineup, but if one of the primary spurs go down, you’ll see a lot more of Diggs. He played safety in high school and signed as the #11 player at that position out of Cape Coral (Fla.) Island Coast.

What 42 days means
We are just six weeks away from kickoff. Six. And if these past few weeks have been any indication, they’ll go by like a breeze.

Gamecocks football in 1942
Record: 1-7-1 (1-4 Southern)
Coach: Rex Enright
The year 1942 may, arguably, go down as one of the worst in program history. Scoring just 5.1 points a game, they were shut out four times and failed to score more than six points only twice. And they lost to Clemson.
