Gamecocks nab RB A.J. Turner
By Sydney Hunte
A.J. Turner will be a South Carolina Gamecock.
The Centreville (Va.) running back, completing a trip to The Opening at the Nike campus in Beaverton, Oregon, announced the news earlier tonight on ESPNU as he spurned overtures from Clemson, Michigan State, Ohio State and Virginia.
The Gamecocks looked to be the heavy favorite going in according to 247Sports.com, and their predictions were confirmed with Turner’s announcement this evening.
The three-star running back–the 33rd ranked RB in the country out of the class of 2015 and the 14th ranked player in the state of Virginia on Rivals.com–is yet another boost to an already stacked group for next year. Carolina moves up to the #2 recruiting class in the country in what’s shaping up to be arguably Steve Spurrier’s best set of recruits since arriving in Columbia. With Mike Davis presumably leaving after his junior season, it looks like the Gamecocks are ready to prepare for a player that could very well be the program’s running back of the future.
