South Carolina football recruiting: Gamecocks add Octavis Johnson
By Sydney Hunte
The South Carolina Gamecocks keep adding on to their stacked 2015 recruiting class. And they’ve picked up yet another four-star recruit to add to the mix.
Octavis Johnson, a four-star cornerback from Clinch County (Ga.), dropped the news on his Twitter account, @tavisjohnson5, earlier this evening:
"Just committed the SOUTH CAROLINA BLESSED GAMECOCK NATION"
Johnson, ranked as the 19th-best CB recruit in the country, had Tennessee in front as early as last week, but gave his word to the Gamecocks staff today. With Johnson in the fold, that puts South Carolina’s recruiting class at fourth in the country according to Rivals.com, third in the SEC behind Alabama and Texas A&M. Although he’s listed as a cornerback, he will enter school as an athlete according to The Big Spur’s recruiting analyst Tony Morrell.
Earlier today, the Gamecocks added three-star cornerback Jaire Alexander from Charlotte (NC) Rocky River. And with Johnson’s addition, the 2015 class just keeps on getting better: South Carolina now has eighteen recruits, ten of them ranked with four stars. And they’re not done yet.
