South Carolina football recruiting: Three star Ga. two-way Darius Slayton set to visit Gamecocks
By Sydney Hunte
The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to add to what’s already a top-flight recruiting class with another defensive player.
Darius Slayton, a WR/DB at Greater Atlanta (Ga.) Christian, tweeted back in May that Carolina was in his top 8:
Now, according to GoUpstate.com, it appears that he’s set to take a visit this summer to Columbia, as well as Clemson, as he looks to pare that list down even more.
Carolina has no shortage of solid receivers coming in: Dexter Neal, right down the road from Slayton at Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, is a four-star commit and a top-30 wideout nationwide in the 2015 class. Jacksonville (FL) First Coast three-star Jerad Washington and Havelock (NC) recruit Michael Bowman, a top-30 overall player in North Carolina, have pledged to the team as well. Slayton, though, is expected to come on as a defender in college.
Slayton didn’t hint too much at a favorite when speaking with GoUpstate’s Eric Guimaraes, simply saying, “I like South Carolina a lot and the offense they run.” He did mention in the article that he was looking to commit in the fall and that neither USC or Clemson had gotten a hold of him recently. But he’s thought to be an Auburn lean according to predictions over at 247Sports.com.
The Gamecocks also added a couple other verbals late last week to go along with their addition of highly touted O-lineman Austin Clark: Foley (Al.) DB Jalen Henry and Hapeville (Ga.) Charter DB Antoine Wilder. Carolina now has fifteen commitments from the class of 2015.
