After putting together a pair of big innings against Campbell, South Carolina didn’t have any bullets left in the gun for Maryland.

For the second time in two days, the Gamecocks had no answers for the Terrapins, losing 10-1. Maryland swept the Columbia Regional after a 33-year absence from the NCAA tournament. After falling behind in the first inning, Maryland scored 10 runs in the final five innings to end South Carolina’s season.

Kyle Martin gave South Carolina a lead in the first inning on an RBI double to left field. However, the Gamecocks could not string together timely hits for the rest of the evening.  The Gamecocks were 2-for-15 with runners on base and 0-for-7 with men in scoring position.

Meanwhile, the Terrapins scored five runs on eight hits off South Carolina starter Joel Seddon. Maryland scored once in the fourth, twice in the fifth, once in the sixth, twice in the seventh and four times in the ninth to put the game out of reach. Terrapin starter Jake Drossner limited the Gamecocks to one run and five hits in 3.2 innings of work.

The loss ends South Carolina’s season and snaps the Gamecocks’ streak of four consecutive super regional appearances. USC ends the year with a 45-18 record.
