South Carolina Gamecocks Football Countdown: 94 Days

Our countdown to the 2014 college football season continues as just 94 days separate us from kickoff between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas A&M Aggies at Williams-Brice Stadium on August 28.

Who Wears #94?
Defensive tackle Kelsey Griffin, a sophomore, will wear #94 this season for the Gamecocks. Griffin will look to improve on his freshman campaign where he recorded twelve tackles in nine games played. He was a very highly touted high school player coming out of Mill Creek (Ga.), being ranked the #7 DT and within the top 125 players in the country from the class of 2013 by Rivals.com. Can he live up to that billing? We should get a better idea in 2014.

Gamecocks football in 1994
1994 was the beginning of the Brad Scott era, and as it turned out, it would be probably the best overall season he would have with the team. They would beat Clemson on the last week of the regular season to punch their ticket to the Carquest Bowl in Miami, where they defeated West Virginia 24-21. Not an awful season, but not a highly successful one, the theme of Scott’s tenure in Columbia (except for the 1-10 season in 1998).
Record: 7-5-0 (4-4-0)
Head Coach: Brad Scott
Big Wins: Clemson; West Virginia

Also in 1994…
The number one song was “The Sign” by Ace of Base.
The Lion King was the #1 movie.
The 1994 Winter Olympics were held in Lillehammer, Norway.
