Gamecocks draw Campbell, Old Dominion, Maryland in NCAA Tournament
By Sydney Hunte
The South Carolina Gamecocks knew they’d be in the NCAA Tournament and host a regional. They now know who’s coming to town.
South Carolina will open up against on Friday at 7 p.m. against the Big South’s Campbell Camels at Carolina Stadium as the full NCAA tournament field was released today. The Camels (40-19) made the NCAA Tournament field as the Big South tournament champion.
If the Gamecocks get past their regional (and history shows that they will, given their 16-0 postseason mark at Carolina Stadium), they’ll be matched up with the winner of the Charlottesville regional. Virginia, Bucknell, Liberty and Arkansas make up that particular regional.
Here’s the full list of teams in Columbia this weekend:
South Carolina Gamecocks (42-16)–SEC at-large bid
Campbell Camels (40-19)–Big South auto bid (tournament champions)
Old Dominion Monarchs (36-24)–Conference USA at-large bid
Maryland Terrapins (36-21)–ACC at-large bid
The SEC sent ten teams in all to the tournament, which stands as a record. As for the top national seeds, they are Oregon State, followed by Florida, Virginia, Indiana, FSU, Louisiana-Lafayette, TCU and LSU.
We’ll have this regional covered from start to finish, so bookmark Garnet and Cocky and check back throughout the week as we’ll preview the action, give our take on all the teams involved, and follow the Gamecocks as they begin their quest for a third national championship.
