Bryce Harper could be ending his Gamecock career
By Rixon Lane
There is no denying that South Carolina’s baseball program has brought in an incredible amount of talent over the past several seasons.
Since 2010, the Gamecocks have had 27 players drafted by MLB franchises. However, there have all been plenty of potential Gamecocks who have bypassed Columbia on their way to the big leagues. In fact, there are several major league players who could have been (or currently would be) a part of the Gamecock baseball program:
Bryce Harper
Had Harper completed high school instead of leaving after his sophomore season and fulfilled his commitment to South Carolina, he would be preparing for the postseason of his junior year. Instead, Harper is a career .273 hitter in his third season for the Washington Nationals.

Wil Myers
Myers committed to South Carolina as a junior and likely would have left Columbia after his junior year, which would have been in 2012. Myers could have been a member of two national championship teams, but now he is in his second year with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Jordan Lyles
If Lyles had passed on the Houston Astros, who made him the 38th pick in the 2008 draft, he could have ended his Gamecock career with back-to-back national titles in his sophomore and junior seasons. However, the Hartsville native has been a big leaguer for four seasons and is having the best year of his young career.
Gavin Floyd
Floyd would have missed out on the golden age of Gamecock baseball, but his freshman season (2002) would have seen him make a trip to the national championship game and the Gamecocks made it to Omaha every year of what would have been his college career. Floyd is now in his 11th year in the major leagues and is currently with the Atlanta Braves.
