Gamecocks football recruiting: Davon Durant’s top 4 includes South Carolina

Highly touted linebacker Davon Durant, rated as the top JUCO linebacker in the country, has released his top four–and it includes the South Carolina Gamecocks, Saturday Down South and Scout.com are reporting.

Also on Durant’s top four: Georgia, Arizona State and Florida State. It would be another big get for the Gamecocks’ coaching staff, who is already boasting the fifth best recruiting class in the nation.

Durant, as you recall, was in Columbia to meet with LB coach Kirk Botkin a few weeks ago and was expected to commit, but he didn’t, despite enjoying his time there.

Bleacher Report says of Durant:

"[He] has solid toughness and strength at the point of attack. He takes on lead-blockers well, as he excels versus the run. Durant also has the speed to keep up with running backs in coverage."

It might help the Gamecocks’ case that Durant, a member of JUCO power Butler Community College in Kansas, is from Greenwood High School–the same school that produced Kelcy Quarles and D.J. Swearinger.
