99 Days Until South Carolina Gamecocks Football

In 99 days, we’ll be ushering in a new year of South Carolina Gamecocks football.

On August 28, Williams-Brice will be packed to the brim as the Texas A&M Aggies invade Columbia to take on the Gamecocks. So, we’re kicking off a new series today as we count down to the 2014 season.

Who Wears #99?
99-Abu Lamin

Redshirt Junior (JUCO transfer)
6’4″, 295
Trinity Christian, Fayetteville, NC/Fort Scott (JUCO), Fort Scott, KS

Last season, Lamin registered 34 tackles, 1.5 sacks, forced fumble for Fort Scott CC. He signed on as a JUCO transfer in January and will be able to play right away.

Gamecocks football in 1999
Sorry to dredge up bad memories, but we promise it’s the last time we’ll do it. The 1999 squad averaged–averaged–just 7.90 points a game and gave up 25.2. Sure, they weren’t expected to win the national championship in 1999, but this team was just flat out terrible.
Record: 0-11
Head Coach: Lou Holtz
Big Wins: Well…
Leaders: Derek Watson led the team in rushing with a “whopping” 394 yards. Leading receiver: Jermale Kelly, with just 366 yards.

Also in 1999…
The number one song was “Believe” by Cher.
Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace was the #1 movie.
And on November 15, 1999, this particular song was released for the very first time.
