South Carolina Gamecocks football recruiting: Lorenzo Nunez commits to Carolina
By Sydney Hunte
While a part of their past prepared for his impending NFL journey, the South Carolina Gamecocks added a nice, important piece to their future, gaining a commitment from Harrison (Ga.) 2015 four-star quarterback Lorenzo Nunez this evening.
Nunez was already being considered by some to be the Gamecocks’ quarterback of the future. Dylan Thompson, the presumptive starter in 2014, will be a redshirt senior, with Connor Mitch projected as the backup. That could possibly set up a good QB battle in 2015 when Nunez steps on campus, unless he redshirts.
Mitch was ranked by Rivals.com as the sixth best player in his position and the 96th ranked player in the country (11th in the state of Georgia). Clemson, Ohio State, N.C. State and Tennessee were other schools that had offered.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on things and monitoring Nunez’s development during his senior season over at Harrison, but for now, it looks to be a stellar get at signal caller for Steve Spurrier and the Carolina staff.
