When Jadeveon Clowney returns home this weekend, he won’t just be a former South Carolina Gamecocks defensive end.

He’ll be former South Carolina Gamecocks defensive end and (insert name here) first round-draft pick Jadeveon Clowney.

The big man is headed to the Big Apple as his journey to the NFL Draft officially began with him boarding a plane to New York to prepare for Thursday, the day his life will change forever:

After Thursday, the fun really begins. It’s preparing to sign contracts, signing contracts, staying in shape for camp, starting camp, going through preseason, starting the regular season and hopefully making a big enough impact to make every cent of his contract worth it.

It will be an interesting journey. It already has been interesting. And whether or not the kid from Rock Hill, South Carolina is completely ready for it will be a question that will be answered in due time.

And it will all start in earnest Thursday night when Roger Goddell calls his name from the podium.

UPDATE: Clowney is set to appear on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tomorrow evening. (h/t to @GamecockCentral)
