Gamecock fans have come to expect Steve Spurrier to make a splash at the SEC’s annual media days.  This year was no different.  Spurrier continued his wave-making ways by taking an early jab at Notre Dame, joking about Florida and Urban Meyer, and continuing his support of paying college athletes.  However, after South Carolina’s portion of SEC media day, Jadeveon Clowney was the one getting the most attention for his comments.

One question that was on the mind of most reporters on Tuesday, was the confirmation of his supposed 40-yard dash time.  His teammate, Mike Davis, leaked via twitter that Clowney had apparently been clocked running the 40 at an astonishing 4.46 speed.  Clowney was asked about his 40, and he confirmed that the rumors were true.  He in fact was more than happy to share his time with the members of the media.  ” 4.46. It was great, too. Felt good about myself” said Clowney.

Clowney, obviously comfortable with the media was questioned about his possible meeting with Johnny Manziel in the SEC Championship.  More specifically, Clowney was asked if he would be capable of catching Manziel.  Clowney responded,”Can I get him? Yes, I can get him. How do I approach him? Full speed. He gotta make a move. I’m going straight, I make him make a move. I’m going to try to hit him in the mouth.”

Notably on the topic of quarterbacks, Jadeveon Clowney enlightened the media surrounding him with his take on opposing quarterbacks that he faces, specifically Tajh Boyd.  “I can tell Tajh Boyd is scared back there. He ain’t no sitting duck, but you can see in his eyes that he’s scared of our D-linemen. We know that coming into the game that we have him shook already. We get a couple hits on him and it changes the whole game. He’s scared every time we play them. I know he’s probably listening to this right now, but I’m just telling the truth, man.”

South Carolina fans should be feeling good after Clowney’s strong outing at SEC media day.  He has goals for this year and they don’t revolve solely around himself.  “The Heisman’s not a big deal to me. Winning the SEC championship’s a big deal to me.”
