On a night where most of Gamecock nation anticipated commitments in two sports, Shaq Davidson was the only commitment to the University of South Carolina.  The four star wide receiver from Gaffney High School, the same school Sidney Rice played at before his tenure with the Gamecocks, chose to spend his college experience wearing garnet and black.  Davidson is the fourth commitment in the 2014 recruiting class for South Carolina that is also in the ESPN top 300.

Shaq Davidson seemed to like everything about South Carolina as he made his decision earlier this evening. “I love the coaching staff down there.  They are very welcoming and make me feel at home plus the atmosphere down there is great. They are building something special at South Carolina and I would love to be a part of all that.”   Davidson was heavily recruited by Steve Spurrier, Jr.

The Junior played only six games at receiver before being moved to quarterback.  As a receiver, Davidson racked up only 24 catches for 340 yards and two touchdowns.  His numbers at quarterback were more impressive, where he tallied 901 yards in the air and nine touchdowns while rushing for 598 yards and seven touchdowns respectively.

Davidson had multiple offers from BCS schools including  Auburn, Clemson, and Georgia.  Davidson and his family took several official visits to different campuses during his recruiting process, however he made multiple visits to Columbia and made it very public that the Gamecocks were his primary choice from the outset.  Davidsion marks the ninth recruit for the 2014 Gamecock recruiting class and he is the no. 3 recruit in the State of South Carolina.

The Gamecocks are more than happy to have the addition of Davidson in their stable of receivers, and the wideout made it very clear that he was happy to be headed to play for Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks.  “I am committed to South Carolina.  It feels great to be a Gamecock!,” said Davidson.
