David Williams announced his commitment to the South Carolina Gamecocks during the Semper Fidelis All American Bowl Friday night.

Williams is rated a four-star prospect by rivals, who lists him as the 18th best running back in the nation and the eighth best player in the state of Pennsylvania where he rushed for Imhotep Inst Charter in Philadelphia.

ESPN ranks him a four-star as well, but says he’s the 13th best RB in the country.

Williams chose the Gamecocks over a number of schools including Ohio State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Tennessee and Arizona State. That final school (Arizona State) was the only place he took an official visit.

The signing pushed South Carolina to number 11 in Rivals top 25 recruiting class ranking, and that spot could just be a place holder, because the Gamecocks are still receiving interest from guys like Yannick Ngakoue, Keith Bryant and Na’Ty Rogers, all rated four star recruits by 247 sports.

Williams was a long-time South Carolina “lean”, but the coaching staff had to breath a huge sigh of relief when they final got his commitment since the Gamecocks will have at best three and at worst two returners at the RB position next year (Shon Carson might just want to play baseball only).

G.A. Mangus was Williams’ recruiter.
