Most of you are watching Georgia, Tennessee, some may be keeping their eyes on Clemson, Boston College, and still, some of you might not be watching college football at all during what has proven to be one of the worst weekends for the sport in recent memory.
I implore you all, though, pay attention to SC, UK.
Not only can you watch the game from the comfort of your home or local sports bar, but it’s also on during prime time, on a prime time channel.
Also, there are some things this game will tell Carolina fans about the future.
South Carolina almost lost to the only other sub-par SEC team it’s played this year. If this game is close, like, within two touchdowns, the Cocks are in trouble.
If they blow Kentucky out of their own building, they’ll be fine heading into what could be the biggest game in school history on 10/6 against Georgia.
Another thing to watch is how SC calls plays against Big Blue. Even though the Gamecocks have played four games this year, they’ve probably let their future opponents in on about half of their plays so far. On defense, Lornezo Ward’s squad should be able to get pressure on whoever Kentucky plays at QB with their front four.
Offensively, SC should be able to score plenty of points on short passes, zone reads, and I-formation running plays.
Essentially, they have to keep Georgia, LSU and Florida guessing. The less time those teams have to prepare for SC, the better of the Gamecocks will be against them.
Oh yeah, there’s one more reason to watch SC @ Kentucky tonight. It’s not likely, but Connor Shaw could break the NCAA record for consecutive completions. The current record is held by Dominique Davis who completed 36 passes in a row over two games in 2011.
Be sure to head to Garnet and Cocky tomorrow for all your post game interweb desires.
