Connor Shaw update and a look around the SEC East

facebooktwitterreddit

Connor Shaw dove his way into Gamecock lore on Thursday, leading South Carolina to a 17-13 victory with a bruised shoulder and a throwing arm he “couldn’t fee” at one point.

Most of the websites that cover Carolina football (GamecockCentral.com TheBigSpur.com, etc) are saying Shaw will play against ECU on Saturday. In a few moments we’ll know if he was even able to practice today (the Gamecocks practiced at 11:00 am this morning.

That’s good news for SC, because after a close game with Vandy, the Gamecocks are going to have to put up some big numbers on the Pirates and Shaw’s going to have to prove he can move the team downfield through the air, or else SEC defenses will stack the box all game and Carolina will end up a seven win team at best.

Now to the games being played today (none of which affect Carolina).

Georgia is playing Buffalo and should run through them. There isn’t much insight to gain from this contest. Florida is playing Bowling Green and we might get a first glimpse of what the Gator’s offense will be like without a surefire starting quarterback… Actually it will probably look like it did last year.

Kentucky plays Louisville in a game that should be somewhat of a bloodbath. If UK can keep it close, it’ll be a moral victory the team can build on in order to assure a spot above Ole Miss for the worst team in the SEC.

Finally Missouri is playing Southeastern Louisiana in a game that should prove to be one of the worst of the season.
