What Akeem Auguste’s injury means for SC’s Secondary
Auguste is out indefinitely after injuring his groin, and with an already shaky secondary, this is bad, bad news for the Gamecocks.
Jimmy Legree, a redshirt senior who moved over from safety this offseason, will take over for Auguste.
Ahmad Christian is listed as his backup now, but with Cadarius Sanders out, there’s no one really ready to be Victor Hampton’s backup.
This secondary will be relatively young, and pretty inexperienced.
D.J. Swearinger is going to have to cover a lot of ground to make up for the mistakes sure to be made by his secondary teammates.
Opponents will no doubt try to expose Carolina’s secondary as the season goes on, so the Gamecocks defensive line will have to bring their A game every night.
Auguste’s loss cannot be understated.
Hopefully SC’s coaches can figure out a way to lessen the impact his indefinite departure causes.
