Red-shirt freshman Tanner McEvoy is transferring from South Carolina.

Head coach Steve Spurrier announced as much on Tuesday.

It’s not immediately clear why he’s transferring and where to.

Gamecocks fans know all about the 19-year-old’s recent run-in with the law. Just as a refresher, though, here’s the recap from ESPN:

“McEvoy was arrested July 30 and charged with speeding and driving after consuming alcohol while under 21. The state of North Carolina does not allow a driver who’s younger than 21 to have any alcohol in their system. McEvoy posted a $250 bond for the two misdemeanor charges and was released.”

From what I can gather, McEvoy was not over the legal limit for drivers 21 or older.

Spurrier scoffed at a reporter who asked if he would punish McEvoy, and everyone thought that was the end of the situation.

Everyone was wrong.

No offense to the kid, but his loss won’t hurt South Carolina much this year, if at all. He was listed as the team’s fourth quarterback heading into the fall.
