The South Carolina Gamecocks had some relatively big news come out of preseason practice when it announced by Steve Spurrier that Tanner McEvoy would transfer.

We certainly weren’t the first to report it, but we do have a story about his decision on our home page if you want to know more.

Other than that, there’s still some other stories to get to.

Live5News.com asked special teams coach Joe Robinson how the battle at place-kicker is heating up, and he responded:

“New special teams coach Joe Robinson said the competition for the placekicking duties is heating up, with senior Adam Yates, redshirt freshman Landon Ard and newcomer Nick St. Germain all getting an equal amount of opportunities with the first team unit.”

The Washington Post notes that Spurrier’s coaching staff has a few newcomers, but says it isn’t a problem at all:

“Spurrier said the group’s quickly fit and kept the Gamecocks grinding through a largely quiet offseason.”

Opposingviews.com has a good story up about the biggest news to come from the defensive side of things so far in practice:

“Freshman corner back Rico McWilliams will have ligament repair knee surgery to help with an injury he suffered in Saturday night’s practice… Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will be used in a variety of ways this year as the Gamecocks plan to use him at the defensive end, defensive tackle and middle linebacker positions this upcoming season.”

Here are a few tweets from high school kids getting offers from USC:

Cooper is a two-star athlete back according to Rivals.com, which lists him as committed to SC. He’s a five-star when it comes to the naming department. Pharoh Cooper. What a name.

Washington is a three-star defensive end according to Rivals.com, which lists him as committed to SC as well. He had offers from a ton of schools, including Clemson, West Virginia and Ole Miss.

Finally, another great video to get you pumped up for Carolina football. Yes, it does feel good to be a Gamecock.
