The South Carolina basketball team returns a ton of talent from a team that won 18 games a season ago. Where do they stand in the SEC?

Frank Martin and the South Carolina basketball team are back on campus and preparing for the upcoming season. Expectations will be high in Columbia, as coach Martin returns a great deal of talent from a team that won 18 games and took down the defending national champion Virginia Cavaliers.

The Gamecocks have won double digit conference games and finished in the top half of the league in four of the last five seasons. In 2020, they bring back nearly all of its major contributors, with center Maik Kotsar’s graduation and sharp-shooter Jair Bolden’s transfer being the only defections.

South Carolina received some fantastic news earlier this month when guard AJ Lawson opted to return for his junior season, meaning that eight of the Gamecocks’ top ten scorers from last year are back. Lawson paced the team at 13.4 points per contest.

With a strong core returning to Columbia for the upcoming season, where do the Gamecocks stand in the SEC?
