On Saturday, August 22nd, the Gamecocks held their second scrimmage of the off season before kicking off the 2015 season against North Carolina. Coming out of the first scrimmage, all we knew is that the freshman were scared to death, the quarterbacks were playing slow and that our starters were still unknown. After todays second scrimmage we did get a little more clarity on how things are going to start shaping up for the first game of the season.

The big answer we have to go to first that all Gamecock fans are dying to know is the quarterback situation. The stats from todays scrimmage for the quarterbacks was: Mitch 5-10 71 yards 2INTs, Orth 5-10 56 yards, Scarnecchia 6-10 56 yards, Nunez 3-3 44 yards with a fumbled snap.

Steve Spurrier said that all the quarterbacks were staying pretty even with no separation on who wants to be the starter. The Head Ball Coach did say though that maybe a quarterback decision will be made in the middle of next week. He did say overall that the guys played pretty good and that it was, “Encouraging that the offense was able to move the ball and so forth.”.

Brandon Wilds stood out for the running backs today breaking 80 yards for a touchdown, which is much expected from us Gamecock fans because we know how important it is for us to be able to run the football to win games. Brandon said, “We know if we run the ball its going to be hard to stop us.”.

Jon Hoke said that the defense was not as sharp today and that the tackling slipped slightly and that the defensive line didn’t give much push up front. Hoke said that the defense didn’t play with the, “Passion they’ve played with through camp” today. Steve Spurrier said, “The defense didn’t have the best day they’ve had this year”.

Some Gamecocks did get injured; David Johnson sprained his left knee, Kelsey Griffin banged up his arm but luckily none of the injures seem to be to serious to cause any concern.
