South Carolina Gamecocks Football Countdown: 14 Days

facebooktwitterreddit

Our countdown to the 2014 college football season continues as just 14 days separate us from kickoff between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas A&M Aggies at Williams-Brice Stadium on August 28.

Who wears #14: Ali Groves (CB) and Shaq Davidson (WR)
Groves is listed behind starting corner Rico McWilliams, but he should see some time on the field, especially with the key cogs from last year gone. While he played corner and wideout in high school, he’ll settle in on defense here in Columbia.

Davidson, a true freshman, might have some work to do if he is to crack the depth chart, but he is a sure bet to add another dimension to the Gamecocks’ offense when he does see the field. Rated as one of the best wideouts in the country by multiple publications, the Gaffney product entertained offers from Auburn, Clemson and Georgia (among others) before settling in on South Carolina.

What 14 days means
Two things: one, the launch of the SEC Network, which is set to go live at 6pm tonight. It also means the first athletic event of the 2014-15 season: the #14 women’s soccer team taking on #18 Duke in an exhibition match. We previewed women’s soccer yesterday.
