South Carolina basketball: Shamiek Sheppard hurt, “possible ACL”

facebooktwitterreddit

Last week, incoming South Carolina freshman forward Shamiek Sheppard suffered a knee injury, then described by head coach Frank Martin as a “tweak”.

According to Martin’s comments during today’s SEC men’s basketball teleconference, it might be much worse than that.

It’s not been a good summer for the Gamecocks’ incoming players.

Aside from Sheppard’s injury troubles, signee James Thompson is facing legal issues. Thompson, as you’ll recall, was arrested on several charges including assaulting his girlfriend a few weeks ago. Martin didn’t have any updates on those proceedings , but the school’s taking a wait-and-see approach to see what comes of the charges, according to GoGamecocks.com.

The good news: it looks like Temarcus Blanton and Marcus Stroman have escaped this stroke of misfortune–for now.

We’ll be sure to pass along any updates on the status of Sheppard (and Thompson) when we receive it, but in Sheppard’s case, and likely in Thompson’s case as well, those updates look like they may be on the negative site.
