Our countdown to the 2014 college football season continues as just 80 days separate us from kickoff between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Texas A&M Aggies at Williams-Brice Stadium on August 28.

Who Wears #80?

Number 80 belongs to redshirt junior wide receiver K.J. Brent. A native of North Carolina, Brent has five career catches and has been used predominantly on special teams during his time in Columbia. Brent has shone in the classroom, being named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2012 and 2013. Although he entered the spring as a member of the second-string, Brent will likely be turned to if a receiver goes down during the season.

Gamecocks football in 1980

1980 ushered in one of the most successful decades in Gamecock football history. South Carolina opened the season by outscoring Pacific and Wichita State by a combined 110-0. After a loss to Georgia, the Gamecocks traveled to Ann Arbor to take on 17th-ranked Michigan. In front of 104,213 fans, the largest crowd to ever see South Carolina play at that time, the Gamecocks upset the Wolverines 17-14. Behind George Rogers’ Heisman-winning season, the Gamecocks finished 8-4, with three of their four losses coming against teams ranked in the top-five.
