It’s been a tough last few hours for former South Carolina Gamecocks cornerback Victor Hampton.

From jubilation after watching teammate Jadeveon Clowney go first overall a few days ago in the NFL Draft, and then Bruce Ellington‘s pick in the fourth round, to disappointment after his name wasn’t called at all at the end of the draft, to just feeling left with uncertainty after first Kelcy Quarles, then Connor Shaw, followed by Chaz Sutton and Jimmy Legree all signing unrestricted free agent deals with various teams around the NFL.

The dream, as of now at least, looks like it’s flat out stalled for Hampton.

“When asked if he thought he’d get a shot at the NFL with a free-agent deal, Hampton said: ‘I have no clue. To be honest, I really don’t want to talk about it right now.'”, David Cloninger from The State in Columbia reported earlier this evening.

Surely, there has to be a market for a player like Hampton, who had 51 tackles and a forced fumble as a junior. Missteps and all. He worked hard to put all of that behind him later in his college career. The fans are frustrated, too, wondering why he hasn’t heard anything yet, not just during the draft, but after.

But for now, the clock continues to tick. And hopefully for Hampton, the wait concludes with a call from an NFL team.
