–Football held their 11th practice yesterday–GamecocksOnline.com has a writeup as well as some video. Speaking of football, GoGamecocks.com looks at a new rule in college football allows coaches to work with players during the summer.

When (secondary coach) Grady Brown heard about (the new rule), he thought, “God is good.”…[T]eams can have eight hours per week during summer school that can be supervised by a coach. Two of those hours can be used for film review, and that couldn’t come at a better time for Brown, who will welcome five cornerbacks – Wesley Green, Al Harris Jr., Chris Lammons, Darin Smalls and D.J. Smith – during summer school and needs at least one of them to be ready to play by the end of August.

The Masters sisters are putting together a pair of solid seasons for Gamecocks softball. Ashlyn leads the team with a .413 average, but Lauren is coming on:

For 10 of the past 13 games, Lauren Masters has batted in the No. 2 spot, and the tandem has played a key role in the Gamecocks’ seven-game winning streak as they head to Athens this weekend for an important SEC series against No. 15 Georgia…“Our dream was to always play with each other,” Ashlyn said. “We didn’t know how it would work out. Now that it has worked out, it’s probably the best thing that’s ever happened in my life.”

–In action today: Besides softball at Georgia, baseball has a twin bill at Arkansas after yesterday’s game was cancelled; #6 women’s tennis is at Ole Miss, while the men entertain the Rebels up in Columbia. Track begins competition at the Pepsi Florida Relays.
