South Carolina Gamecocks freshman pitcher Wil Crowe has had a solid start to his college career. Now, the nation is starting to take notice.

Perfect Game has given Crowe its midseason freshman of the year honors after the Pigeon Forge, Tennessee native put together a 6-0 record with a 1.37 ERA in seven starts.

Crowe has established himself as one of the nation’s top pitchers in just a short time. Along with his unbeaten record and tiny ERA, opposing batters are hitting just .214 off of him. His control has been impeccable–just six walks total in 46.0 IP (1.58 BB/9), which, with a low 90s fastball and some other pitches in the arsenal, equals a big paycheck down the road.

Crowe gets the call on Saturday, the final game of the series between the Gamecocks and the Arkansas Razorbacks. The righty will be going up against junior Chris Oliver and will be looking to go 7-0 and drop his ERA in the process.

One other SEC player picked up midseason honors: that was LSU’s Aaron Nola, who picked up pitcher of the year honors. The Gamecocks and Tigers aren’t scheduled to play in the regular season.
