The Houston Texans hold the first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and are widely predicted to select either a quarterback (thought to be either UCF’s Blake Bortles or Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel) or South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney. Pick number two belongs to the St. Louis Rams, so that means that if the Texans do go QB, Clowney could be headed out to the Midwest.

ESPN’s Rams reporter, Nick Wagoner (with a little help from colleague Todd McShay), took a look this morning at how Clowney could fit into St. Louis head coach Jeff Fisher and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams’ plans on D:

"The Rams’ base 4-3 defense is one that’s a little easier to see how different pieces would fit. It’s hard to imagine there’s a team out there that wouldn’t be able to find a way to use South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney but seeing where he could fit in St. Louis is especially simple…“Clowney would be a perfect fit as a 4-3 defensive end with the Rams (picking No. 2) or Jaguars (No. 3),” McShay wrote. “St. Louis is loaded along the D-line, but Clowney is even more explosive than Robert Quinn was when he was coming out (better combine 40-yard dash, 10-yard split, and vertical and broad jumps).”"

Of course, Clowney could help his case to be picked #1 with a strong showing at today’s Pro Day.
