Clemson looks to secure BCS bowl appearance against #10 South Carolina

When the one blemish on your record comes at the hands of Florida State, it’s not hard to feel pretty good about what you’ve accomplished this season. That’s the tale of the tape for Clemson this weekend as they travel only 132 miles to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the 111th installment of the Palmetto Bowl.

Taj Boyd, Sammy Watkins, and the Clemson offense head into this match-up on an absolute tear, having thrown up 50 or more points in three consecutive weeks. The Gamecocks are no slouches on offense either, having rattled off four consecutive victories since their loss at Tennessee, including a 70-point outburst last weekend against Coastal Carolina. With a win over Clemson and a Missouri loss against Texas A&M, the Gamecocks can actually lock up an appearance against the Alabama Crimson Tide for a chance to play spoiler in the SEC Championship Game.

While a loss to Florida State will keep Clemson from the ACC Championship game, a win over South Carolina will likely secure the Tigers a berth in the Orange Bowl as Florida State’s replacement. A classic intrastate rivalry, Clemson/South Carolina checks in at an average ticket price of $261 dollars despite a 10% decline in the past week. Although the winner of this game figures to play in a BCS bowl, tickets check in 131% above the average price for South Carolina football tickets at home this season, and 21% above the average price for Clemson football tickets when they hosted South Carolina last season.
