Frank Martin – “It’s on me.”

The University of South Carolina men’s basketball team will open it’s 2012-2013 season Sunday when they host Milwaukee.  Tip-off is set for 3pm.

This will be fan’s first look at the team since they dodged disaster against Kentucky Wesleyan in exhibition play just over a week ago.

First year head coach Frank Martin has spent many hours (since his March arrival) working to win the hearts and minds of Carolina fans who slowly withdrew from the program under the leadership of former coach Darrin Horn.  He (along with the team) has made appearances at football games, handed out food to students in the McGuire Deli, and had his players personally contact season ticket holders to thank them for their support.

In a final push to urge students to come out in support of the new season, in the video above, Martin promises students who attend that their food is on his tab.

We here at Garnet and Cocky aren’t sure exactly what that means.  Will students be greeted by a smorgasbord of southern delicacies?  We doubt it.  It will probably be a stack of Little Caesar’s.  Either way…Coach, you had us at free food.

Despite the free food, we believe this team deserves student and fan support.  It takes time to build a program, especially when the Horn firing left the cupboard empty.  But, this year’s squad is ready to take the first of those rebuilding steps.

Garnet and Cocky will be there, will you?
